Bali Wedding, Seminyak – Bree & Luke
It had been over 12 years since I had visited Bali. A lot has happened during that period. At one point I was convinced I would never return to the little tropical paradise. Something had changed in the past few years though. I had friends and family starting to return to Bali. The reports were pretty enticing. It wasn’t the same old Kuta night club scene. Families were enjoying luxury villas and $5 back rubs for weeks at a time. I kept seeing footage and photos from surf trips and the waves just looked so fun. When Bree & Luke invited me over to shoot their wedding I knew it was a sign and an opportunity to go and revisit the island for myself. I was so fortunate to be given the opportunity and grateful to actually see how things had changed over there with my own eyes. I’m not going to lie when I say that I must have been one of the most anxious people traveling to Bali with a bodyboard bag strapped to my back. It was stupid really because I had nothing to worry about but I couldn’t help feeling shit scared at times.
Bree & Luke with their ridiculously smily boy Max had been traveling to and from Bali a couple of times a year so it just seemed right for them to get hitched over that way. I arrived a few days early just to get my bearings around Seminyak. I’m glad I did. You can’t help but feel paranoid about the incredibly nice locals and unfamiliar surroundings. It took a little while to let my guard down but once I did it was so enjoyable. After a couple of quick Bintangs with Bree & Luke the night before the wedding, they showed me around the resort they were staying at and we found a couple of cool spots to shoot. That was it. We were set. I had a ball with these guys. Literally playing in the warm Bali breeze straight off the ocean into a late night on a private beach.
I can’t wait to get back there again soon. Hang out with a few more locals and score a few more waves. Stoked I can hang on to these images as a super fond memory spent with a pretty special family, rad crew and an epic place.
